Travel through Time at the Dubai Frame Enjoy exceptional views on your journey through time

by Hansukene

With more unique skyscrapers making up Dubai’s impressive skyline than one could count, there’s one standing right where the past of Dubai meets the present – let us introduce the Dubai Frame. Standing at a whopping 150 metres and boasting spectacular 360-degree views, the award-winning structure has become one of the most loved and visited landmarks in Dubai for tourists and residents alike. If you’d like to embark on a journey through time, complete with unmatched views showcasing the different faces of the ever-evolving city, a visit to the Dubai Frame is guaranteed to hit the mark.

The framework behind the Frame

Opened to the public in January 2018, Dubai Frame is an iconic structure providing incredible views of some of the most famous sights of both the old and new side of Dubai in a single frame. Measuring 150 metres high and 93 metres wide, Dubai Frame is the world’s largest frame. The architectural marvel consists of more than 9,900 cubic metres of reinforced concrete, 2,000 tons of steel and 2,900 square metres of laminated glass. Considering the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) love for gold, it’s no surprise the frame is covered in over 15,000 square metres of gold-coloured stainless steel, making for a mesmerising sight, especially during sunrise and sunset.

The exterior of the Dubai Frame is not the only golden thing about the structure, however. The rectangular shape of the Frame was inspired by the ‘golden ratio’ of 1.618, which is believed to be the perfect structural balance by many architects and artists. Combine that with the perfect mixture of Dubai’s past, present and future, the extraordinary attraction is set to leave any visitor feeling more balanced than a sunset yoga session.

As any avid Expo 2020 Dubai visitor will surely notice, the unique design on the frame was inspired by the mega event’s logo, which in turn was based on an ancient ring found at a 4,000-year old archaeological site in the desert. Similarly to the Museum of the Future, the design can truly be enjoyed and appreciated once inside the beautiful venue.

Exploring three eras of Dubai

If you think your time discovering the world’s largest frame is like a visit to any other viewing deck around town, you’re in for a great surprise. Once you make your way inside, you’ll be mesmerised by an installation depicting the movement of falcon wings as it soars through the skies. Look further to catch glimpses of the ever-changing desert landscape and admire sculptures of wild horses. You’ll feel immersed in the local culture from the first second as you inhale enticing scents – something that Emiratis take great pride in.

Your journey on this time machine starts by taking a stroll through the rich and fascinating past of Dubai. Learn about the history of pearl diving, the importance of coffee traditions, and how Dubai became the modern metropolis we know today. The impressive multimedia exhibition starts on the mezzanine floor and ends with a 75-second elevator ride to the spectacular Sky Bridge on level 48. Don’t forget to take in the panoramic views when you’re shooting for the stars!

The main act awaits on the 48thfloor, where guests are invited to enjoy spectacular sights of Old Dubai on one side and awe-inspiring views of present Dubai on the other. Indulge in mesmerising 360-degree views as you make your way across the adrenaline-inducing glass floor, showcasing the beautiful Zabeel Park sitting 150 metres below.

Your time at the top features several interactive experiences, allowing you to discover interesting facts about the surrounding sights and the Frame itself (e.g. the amount of time it took to put the Sky Bridge in place). You’re not going to want to miss the amazing selfie opportunity, putting you in the spotlight as you pose for some unmatched Instagram material. Complete with little coffee counters, Dubai Frame allows you to take in the magical views, whilst sharing a quick bite with your companions and sipping on some hot chocolate before continuing your expedition to the future.

As you return to the mezzanine floor, your next stop is nothing short of inspiration station. Stroll through the tunnel of Future Dubai Gallery, boasting special lights and sound effects delivering an idea of Dubai 50 years from now. Experience a multimedia presentation showcasing waltz-loving robots, self-driving cars and a UAE space station set up on Mars. We can guarantee you’ll feel more excited than ever for what’s to come.
